Café de Jaren is a light, spacious café-restaurant that opened in 1990 on the Nieuwe Doelenstraat, between the Muntplein and the opera house. High ceilings give it an open feel, and at the back a balcony and waterside terrace look out over the Amstel; you can even moor your boat at its own jetty. The reading table is a local institution.
Walk-in only (no reservations) and card-only. Open Sunday–Wednesday 10:00–22:00 and Thursday–Saturday 10:00–23:00; the kitchen closes at 21:00, with snacks until later.
