Lumen Travo was founded in 1985 by Marianne van Tilborg as a salon where visual artists, theatre makers, musicians, filmmakers and fashion designers met. After spells on the Paulus Potterstraat, the gallery has been on the Lijnbaansgracht since 1995.
It focuses on international artists and non-Western perspectives, with exhibitions on themes such as identity, post-colonialism and global art dialogues, and has introduced artists such as Shirin Neshat and Otobong Nkanga to the international art world.
Opening hours: Thursday to Saturday, 13:00–18:00, or by appointment.
