De Hollandsche Manege hides behind a stately gateway on the Vondelstraat, right next to the Vondelpark. The city riding school was built in 1882 and is described as the oldest riding school in the Netherlands; it is a national monument.
In the classic riding hall, lessons are given to beginners and experienced riders. The building also houses the Living Horse Museum, which shows how equestrian sport has changed over the centuries. Side-saddle riding, part of the museum, is recognised as intangible cultural heritage, and you can even try it in a lesson.
Museum opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00–17:00. A short walk from the Leidseplein.
