Museum Vrolik is an anatomical museum located at the AMC hospital (now part of Amsterdam UMC) since 1984. The collection grew out of the private museum of the anatomy professors Gerard and Willem Vrolik and includes around 1,200 human specimens preserved in fluid, animal skeletons, wax models and specimens showing congenital conditions.
The museum shows how the human body is built and how anatomical knowledge developed. The collection is presented with attention to its historical and social context, including research into the origins of human remains from former colonies.
Guided tours can be booked for educational groups, professional groups and private visitors, and can be adapted to theme, age and background.
