Het Scheepvaartmuseum takes you through 500 years of Dutch maritime history and shows how it connects to society today. With more than 400,000 objects, its collection is one of the largest maritime collections in the world, combining ships, VOC history, art and interactive experiences for all ages.
The museum is housed in ’s Lands Zeemagazijn, a former naval storehouse from 1656. Moored alongside is a replica of an 18th-century VOC ship, the Amsterdam, which you can board. There is a restaurant and a museum shop.
Getting there: walk along the Oosterdokskade from Centraal Station (about 15 minutes), or take bus 22 or 43 to Kadijksplein.
