The Albert Cuyp Market in De Pijp has been a favourite with Amsterdammers since 1905. With around 260 stalls, it sells everything from fresh fruit, vegetables and fish to flowers, fabrics, clothing, leather goods and jewellery.
It is the place to try Dutch treats such as raw herring and freshly made stroopwafels, and the street is lined with cafés and coffee bars. On the corner with the Eerste Sweelinckstraat stands a statue of the singer André Hazes, who was born in De Pijp and discovered at the market.
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 09:00–17:00; closed on Sundays and public holidays.
